Abstract
The objective of this research was to determine the factors that affect the compressive strength and durability of concrete. This systematic investigation used a qualitative and descriptive method, based on a detailed analysis of scientific publications published between 2018 and 2024. A bibliographic search of scientific articles was conducted in recognized databases: SciELO, Taylor & Francis, ProQuest, WOS, and Scopus. The search strategies used the Boolean operators "AND" and "OR." The results show that the compressive strength and durability of concrete in modern construction depend on a complex interaction between physical, chemical, and environmental factors. At the physical level, the appropriate proportion of materials, control of the water/cement ratio, and precision in the mixing and curing processes determine the compactness and homogeneity of the material, essential conditions for its structural performance. From a chemical perspective, the presence of aggressive agents such as carbon dioxide, chlorine ions, and sulfates generates carbonation and corrosion reactions that reduce the steel's adhesion, affecting the integrity of the entire structure. Environmental factors, meanwhile, act as accelerators of deterioration, as thermal cycles, humidity, and exposure to extreme conditions intensify cracking and wear. It is important for civil engineers to implement quality control standards at every stage of the construction process, paying special attention to dosage, curing, and environmental conditions at the construction site.
