SUSTAINABLE STRUCTURES AND SELF-HEALING CONCRETE
Keywords:
Sustainable structures, Self-healing concrete, SustainabilityAbstract
The Document explores questions about advances and challenges in the field of sustainable structures with self-healing concrete. Sustainability in construction is a growing concern due to the degradation of concrete structures over time and their environmental impact. In this context, self-healing concrete has emerged as a promising solution. In this sense, the fundamental concepts of self-healing concrete are addressed, which involves the incorporation of special materials in the concrete mix that can self-repair microscopic fissures and cracks. It highlights how this technology reduces the need for constant maintenance and extends the useful life of structures, which is essential for sustainability. Various self-repair strategies are discussed, including controlled release of chemicals, special bacteria, and activation of repair materials through external stimuli. Challenges associated with this technology are also addressed, including material compatibility, long-term durability, and structural safety. The need for continued research to address these issues is noted.
